In 2O1O there will be no separate Miljøcamp at Hove. Instead the whole of the festival camp will be going Green! We pride ourselves on being an environmentally friendly festival and we would ask that everyone who staying in our campsites to please look after their home for the duration. There will be plenty of recycling bins and general waste bins and we have a great team of volunteers who will help you dispose of your rubbish correctly.
Hove Festival is located in a very unique cultural landscape, with Tromøya’s highly distinctive fauna. For us at Hove Festival, it is important that we leave the area as nice as it was when we came, and perhaps prettier. We therefore ask all festival guests to both to explore the beautiful surroundings, and to treat nature with the respect it deserves. Although we take our share of responsibility to clean up and recycle all waste and materials that may be left on site please help us keep our commitments to the community in 2O1O, and in all the years to come!
Remember that small animals can get trapped in litter and birds can choke on or become tangled in rubbish. The seas around the island support fragile ecosystems but can become easily unbalanced by anything that doesn’t belong in them. Please use the many toilets provided in the camp sites and the festival arena and don’t pollute the ground or the water with your acidic waste. Cigarette butts take 12 years to fully biodegrade and one carelessly discarded cigarette could cause a fire that may threaten not only the wooded habitat of the island but also the safety of everyone at Hove and the future of the festival.
HANDY TIPS FOR GREEN CAMPERS
• Minimise the amount of packaging on products purchased. Avoid buying over-packaged goods and individual portion packs.
• Buy durable products, returnable bottles and containers that can be re-filled .
• Look out for recycled goods and those packaged in recycled materials
• Cut down on packaging by buying your fruit and vegetables loose.
• Buy fair-trade and organic food, drinks and products at stalls if possible
.
• Use re-sealable containers to keep your food fresh (this reduces the amount of plastic film and aluminium foil you throw away).
• Use rechargeable batteries.
• Where you can, recycle what you cannot reuse.
• Don't drop your litter. Use the bins and recycling units!
• Litter pickers are lovely! Please help them and make up for 'messy' times.
• Don't leave rubbish or indeed your entire camping set behind!
• Say no to plastic bags if offered by market vendors. Bring your own re-useable cloth bag.
• Please please please don’t drop your cigarette butts. Every butt you throw on the ground has to be picked up by someone else. Use an empty film canister to collect your butts.
• Separate your waste at your campsite and bring your recycling to the appropriate bins.
• Use public transport and our shuttle bus service if possible.
• If you must use your car, making sure your tyres are properly inflated will mean that your car will run more efficiently and will reduce your carbon emissions. If you are in a queue to enter or leave the site, please turn off your engine rather than idling the car.
• Try to use only phosphate free shampoo and soap in the showers and remember to take a short shower to conserve precious water
.
• Turn off taps & showers when finished
.
• Live by the 'LEAVE NO TRACE' philosophy – take only photos & leave only footprints.
